One of the hardest things to accept in life is when someone you love grows old and starts to change. This is what we are going through right now with my grandmother. She is only 75 but was diagnosed with early stages of dementia a year ago. It is getting worse and she is just not able to stay on her own anymore. She has always been an independent person so to watch her change into a confused, dependent person is heartbreaking. She is still Grams though and we want her to have the best care possible. That is why we have looked into Forest Healthcare homes and decided that they were the best choice for her care. We were able to tour a center and it was the nicest one we had seen. Grams feels good there too because the workers actually care about the people they are taking care of. We visit her often, but it’s good to know she’s being taken such good care of even when we cannot.

I remember when I was a small girl I would go visit my grandmother in a nursing home. My parents told me that she had to live there instead of living with us because she needed a lot of medical care that they couldn’t provide. It was hard for me to understand when I was a kid but now that I’m an adult I can see why a lot of elderly people end up in these places. Even now that my mom and dad are getting older I find that I have begun to look into Utah nursing homes as an option for them. Its not something I’m looking forward to but I realize that I won’t be able to work and take care of them at the same time. I’m really glad my dad still gets his pension from work so that will help to take care of those expenses when the time comes up.

I had to put up four cords of wood this season. And that is beyond the cord of pine I keep on hand. I suspect we are going to have a winter long enough to need it. I’m worried about mom though. I think I need to switch her to a pellet stove with an automatic feed. That way I can load the hopper up for a week and the keep it topped up when I visit. I can’t expect her home health care giver to hoist fifty pound bags of pellets. I’m pretty sure that’s not part of the long term care contract. Dad is already in hospice and mom doesn’t need another thing to worry about. I’ll have to stop by the store and take a look at the options. Maybe there are government programs we can get involved with to reduce the costs. I’ll just need to make sure I get a woodstove big enough to handle keeping the house toasty.

When you install a Stair Chair Lift, one of the main things that purchases worry over are the looks of the thing. Often, installations of these things are noticeable to say the least (to put it mildly). It’s not actually something you can not see or keep from pointing out. Because of this, homes with a second staircase (the secondary staircase, usually toward the back of the house where the kitchen and laundry is) are sometimes chosen for this installation. When this is the situation, home owners are faced with the fact that in order to get upstairs, they must travel the length of the house to get up stairs. So logistics have to be examined thoroughly before any installation is implemented and followed through. It can become a relatively complicated thing with a larger house with not as many aesthetic options for installation. Sometimes, elderly folks that live on their own, don’t care as much about preserving the look of their home.
